Mother in Shock After Picking Up Baby from Daycare and Discovering Skull Fracture: ‘Terrified’.

A mother experienced moments of terror after picking up her seven-month-old daughter from daycare and discovering that the baby had suffered a skull fracture. Kiera Young, 26, had complete trust in the institution, as she had worked there for nearly two years. However, that trust was shattered when her daughter, Lexie Hurles, returned from her third adaptation session with a large bruise on her head.
A Shocking Discovery

The incident took place in Glasgow, Scotland, in March 2023. Although the family recently received compensation, the circumstances surrounding the accident remain unclear. Kiera claims that, to this day, she has not received a clear explanation of what happened inside Primrose City Nursery.
On March 24, 2023, Kiera took Lexie to another short adaptation session lasting only two hours. When she returned to pick up her daughter, she noticed a large bump on the baby’s head and immediately knew something was wrong. The daycare staff provided inconsistent information about the incident, leaving the mother even more desperate.
Given the severity of the situation, Kiera rushed Lexie to the hospital. There, medical exams confirmed that the baby had suffered a skull fracture and a mild brain injury. The diagnosis left the mother in shock, especially since she had no concrete answers about how the accident had occurred.
Conflicting Information
The daycare staff’s accounts of the accident were contradictory. While one version stated that Lexie was under supervision and hit her head after throwing her body backward, another suggested that a staff member had stepped away before the child’s fall. The lack of clarity in the testimonies only heightened Kiera’s indignation.
The mother also denounced the daycare’s poor communication. When she picked up her daughter, she was given no information about the incident. Additionally, the institution did not issue an official report on what had happened, raising suspicions of negligence.

Case Repercussions
Due to the seriousness of the situation, Kiera decided to file a complaint with the Care Inspectorate, the regulatory body for childcare services in Scotland. Her complaints regarding lack of care, inadequate communication, and the absence of official reports were confirmed by the agency.
After Lexie was discharged from the hospital, she developed complications, including vomiting and fever, requiring another hospitalization. For three months, the baby continued to show signs of distress, increasing the family’s anxiety.
Pursuit of Justice
Initially, the daycare denied any responsibility for the incident, leading Kiera to file a lawsuit for damages and injuries. The legal battle lasted two years, but recently, the daycare’s insurance company agreed to settle out of court.
“Seeing your daughter in that condition is indescribable. It’s horrifying, terrifying, and infuriating. I may never know exactly what happened that day, but the most important thing is that Lexie has recovered and the daycare was held accountable. I hope this case serves as a warning to other parents and childcare institutions,” Kiera told the Daily Record.
Consequences and Reflection
The case gained significant attention in Scotland and highlighted the need for stricter safety protocols in daycare centers. Experts emphasize that proper supervision and staff training are essential to preventing such accidents.
A spokesperson from Digby Brown Solicitors, the law firm representing Kiera in the lawsuit, commented on the severity of the case:
“The images of Lexie’s injuries are shocking. We can only imagine the distress and fear that both mother and daughter endured. We are pleased that Lexie has recovered and that Kiera achieved the outcome she sought in court. However, this case should serve as a warning to daycare centers across the country. Safety protocols exist for a reason, and they must be strictly followed to ensure the well-being of children.”
Primrose City Nursery was contacted by the press for a statement regarding the case but has yet to respond.
